Academic & Professional Biography

Sonjoy Kumar Roy is a UK-based human rights lawyer and policy leader with over 15 years of experience in asylum, immigration, and international human rights law. He is a practising Barrister and Solicitor, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (FCILEX), and the Founder and Director of Stonebridge Legal Solutions Limited, a London-based firm specialising in complex asylum and human rights matters.

He is the co-founder of the Centre for Global Policy and Governance (CGPG), established in December 2025, where he plays a leadership role in shaping the Centre’s strategic direction, research priorities, and governance standards. His legal expertise informs CGPG’s work on rule of law, democratic governance, state accountability, and the protection of fundamental rights, ensuring that policy engagement is grounded in legal rigour and practical experience.

Based in the United Kingdom, Barrister Roy contributes to policy dialogue and public understanding on justice, migration, and governance, with a particular focus on rights-based approaches and institutional reform. His work bridges legal practice and policy engagement, supporting informed debate on domestic and international governance challenges.

Alongside his leadership role at CGPG, he leads a regular public legal information programme, “Immigration Talks,” delivering weekly online question-and-answer sessions that provide free, accessible legal guidance on immigration and human rights issues to individuals and communities.
